He disappeared on November 14, 1909, while aboard his boat - the Spray, and was legally declared dead in 1924.
Captain Joshua Slocum was a writer, seaman, and above all famous adventurer. He is the best known for his epic voyage, the very first single-handed circumnavigation. You can read about this adventure in his book Sailing Alone Around the World.
Beside his book Sailing Alone Around the World, in which he described his circumnavigation, Joshua Slocum's other books: The Voyage of the Liberdade and The Voyage of the Destroyer have as a theme his sea adventures, too.
